Meet the Judges
A diverse panel of creative experts and students reviewed the students artwork and scored them against the selection criteria. The scores provided by the judges were consolidated to select the winner, who was announced on January 10, 2022!
Kayce Bayer is a teaching artist, illustrator, and mom in Chicago, USA. She teaches art and design to 9th graders at the Chicago High School for the Arts. Her art practice is varied – working across media and collaborating with artists, writers, musicians, and community members – to explore personal narratives, histories, and harness the power of art to inspire curiosity, empathy, and imagination.
Kayce is a co-author and artist of two graphic novels aimed to engage young people in conversations about the places they live. No Small Plans, set in Chicago’s past, present (2017), and future & Washington, By and By, set in the state of Washington, both follow the adventures of teens as they grapple with issues related to urban planning, development and displacement, and community needs.
Yash Bhandari wears multiple hats – between community participation and spatial design as well as sculpture using found materials, he uses the potential of art to leverage civic movements, overcome biases, and build new networks. Yash is the Creative Lead of Geechugalu where he leads the envisioning and management process of the ‘Malleswaram Hogona’ project. The project supported 13 local artists who used public art and murals as a way to promote walkability and pedestrian friendliness in the neighbourhood.
Yash is also the Project Manager at Art in Transit Lab at Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bengaluru. He helped facilitate public and pedagogical interventions in the Cubbon Park Metro Station, envisioned a sustained practice at Chickpete Metro Station, and co-envisioned collaborations such as Metro Neighbourhood Initative with multiple city partners.
Kaushiki Tripathi is the artist and illustrator of Bengaluru 2070. She has extensive experience with digital art and has supported several projects as an illustrator and designer (www.behance.net/kaushiikii). She has completed her undergraduate degree in Architecture from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and she is currently pursuing a Masters of Design from Delhi Technological University.
Kaushiki holds deep admiration for everything aesthetic and appreciates the little perfect and imperfect details to bring ideas and stories to life through graphics. She believes in making conversations and stories more interesting with colours and illustrations.
Sinan Mohammed is a comic and music enthusiast who has lived in Dubai and currently lives in Bengaluru. He is a student at the Vidyashilp Academy, Bengaluru. He has worked on projects organized by Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and also won a few. ATL is a government setup to promote development of inventions and innovations among students in India.
Sinan’s hobbies include playing football, writing short stories, mythology, numismatics, listening to music, and reading books as well as comics. His favourite comic book authors are Grant Morrison and Alan Moore.
Neve Bangalore in her sophomore year of high school at Greenwood High, Bengaluru. She is interested in neuroscience and psychology and would like to pursue it as a career in the future. Her hobbies include photography, swimming, and playing a range of card games. Neve also enjoys traveling, trying new cuisines, and assumes responsibility towards maintaining the health and cleanliness of our environment.
